Box looked a bit beat up - from Shanghai to the Philippines to Indianapolis to Los Angeles in 6 days

imac_02.jpg

The accessory kit

imac_03.jpg

Printed manuals (G5 + Bluetooth Keyboard/Mouse), three DVDs (OSX install 1, OSX install 2, Apple Hardware Test CD), six batteries (2 Lithium, 4 Alkaline)

imac_04.jpg

All the hardware except the computer. I did not get the USB keyboard or mouse. This was a bummer since the Bluetooth does not work when booting off the CD.

imac_05.jpg

iMac G5 ready to be taken out

imac_06.jpg

I moved my existing LCD to the right side

imac_07.jpg

This was the goal - two wires, one power and one network/broadband. Unfortunately, this was not going to last

imac_08.jpg

Ready to boot for the first time

imac_09.jpg

Must turn on Bluetooth devices. Switches at the bottom of keyboard and mouse

imac_10.jpg

Initial Boot. Bluetooth mouse detected!

imac_11.jpg

Panther startup screen

imac_12.jpg

Bluetooth keyboard detected

imac_13.jpg

Must enter password. Can have mulitple Bluetooth input devices

imac_14.jpg

Booted G4 Cube in Firewire mode (right LCD). Data being transferred to iMac G5 (left LCD). Process took 90 minutes. Everything on the Cube internal HD was moved

imac_15.jpg

Even the desktop clutter was preserved! I had to borrow a USB keyboard/mouse to install X11 since that requires booting off the CD. Booting off the iMac returns Bluetooth capability. X11 and Classic support are not installed by default.

imac_16.jpg

Final Setup. Big iPod, meet little iPod

imac_17.jpg

Ugh. This was the best I can do - two FW, one USB, one power, one network. No room for an iSight.

iMac Power Supply Unit (PSU) Replacement - October 8, 2004

imac_psu2.jpg

Sorry, no pictures of the actual PSU replacement, just pictures of the old PSU being returned to Apple

imac_psu3.jpg

The problem seems to be a dried-out potting compound. Who knows how long the new one will last? Stay tuned...

imac_psu4.jpg

imac_psu5.jpg

I'll return it sometime during the workweek.

Cube Cables: Ethernet, USB1, USB2, Modem, VGA, Power

cube015.jpg

My Computer Desk A.C. (After Cube) Cube in final position -- What to do in case of earthquake?

cube018.jpg

Major cleanup - all CD-ROMs on right, useless printer on left. Ethernet hub in center. Much less cable clutter.

Apple Pro Mouse used as sculpture. I prefer the Logitech Wheel Mouse
