Applications

Ashton-Tate, forever known in Mac circles as the company that tried to do an end-run around Guy Kawasaki and failed. The entire sordid story can be found in Guy's book "The Macintosh Way". Other Mac applications they published were the FullWrite word processor and FullImpact spreadsheet; both were good products but suffered from inept marketing. On a personal note, Ashton-Tate is also known for inflicting upon many of us the monstrosity called FrameWork. Ashton-Tate was eventually bought out by rival Borland, who promply shut down the company's Torrance, CA headquarters. The fate of the big Ashton-Tate sign is similar to that of Jimmy Hoffa.
